Maha Sivarathri Festival was held under performance of the Ministry of Constitutional Affairs and National Integration at Galle, Kaluwella Sivan Temple on 16.02.2007 to build brotherhood and Co-operation among all races in the vicinity of the Galle Town.

Sivarathri Poojas were conducted ceremoniously on behalf of the Tamil people who live in and around of Galle Fort. Festivals were conducted at the Galle, Kaluwella Sivan temple from 8.00 p.m. on 16th February 2007 till the dawn of the next day morning. Ceremony of Lighting of Lamps was started at 8.00 p.m. and continued will 6.00 a.m. on the next day. Further special Poojas for every three hours were also held. Milk and king-coconuts were offered for this Pooja. Significance of the Maha sivarathri is the continuous workshop to God Siva without sleeping at night of the festival and day-time on the next day.
The other aim of this festival was to invoke blessings for his Excellency the President, solders of the country and the citizens of Sri Lanka for the development of harmony and unity among the races and for the welfare of the people. Almost 75% of the Sinhaleese participated in this festival.
