Creating Unity among Diversity and Promoting Integration among the Ethnic Groups

Preparation and sharing of food items specific to each ethnic group.

Nirosha Senarath, Jude Wijethunga both jathika Ekabaddatha Pravardana Sahakara I & II of the Ministry are attached to the Divisional Secretariat, Negambo, organized the said food festival on the 26.03.2007 at the Negambo Town Hall.

The object of the program was to promote national integration among all the ethnic groups by providing an opportunity to share food items specific to each ethnic group.

The following food items were prepared and shared among all participants.

Sinhala Food Items : Kavum, Kiribath, Kokis, Plantain
Tamil Food Items : Thosai, Vaday, Iddly
Muslim Food Items : Saukanda, Rulang Kanda, Iddly, Thosai, Wattalappan

The fact that the each ethnic group voluntarily contributed the food demonstrated the unity among the different communities.

The Mayor of Negambo, Members of the Provincial Council, Members of the Pradeshiya sabha also participated at this programme. Assistant Secretary Mr. P.V.M.S.B. Udowita of the Ministry of Constitutional Affairs and National Integration represented the Ministry and The Divisional Secretary Negambo was also present.
